Blog72:
In a bustling, busy city a sullen
girl crouched in a corner street by herself, and appearing in deep thought,
gets disrupted by Someone.
“What’s your name?” Someone asks.
She looks up at Someone, but doesn’t say a word. Someone unsettles her once more. This time, he asks in a more vibrant, daring
voice, “Whom do you trust?”
The girl props up herself a bit; she
mutters at first, but gradually makes her voice audible. Resolutely, she speaks …
“Adults! I trust adults like you,
but especially those who brought me into this world.”
But that’s not all she
declares. She looks at Someone in the eye and assertively
rants. She gets emotional as she states
openly her mind:
“I expect adults to …
Care for
my basic needs
Teach me
skills that I could use to survive
Get me
safe from place to place
Protect
me from predators
Save me
from erring
Encourage
me to praise God in all things
Reassure
me when I’m afraid
Cheer me
on and support me when I’m trying a task
Boost my
morale
Inspire
me to become the best I could be
Embolden
me when I feel helpless …”
Distressed and overwhelmed by the
girl’s litany of responses, Someone
pauses. He speaks back to the girl and
says, “Whoever brought you into this world has much to bear. Keeping you safe and sound, teaching you,
taking care of you, encouraging you, cheering you and supporting you, boosting,
inspiring and emboldening your spirit will take too much time and too many
years! That will be a lifetime of
commitment. Only the strong and compassionate could, and
would take action. There aren’t many of
us Adults who choose to fulfill our expectations!
The girl frowns. She is taken aback by Someone’s retort.
“Why then do you dare ask?” the
girl questions.
“I left a girl just like you a
long time ago,” Someone replies. He goes on to say, “I wondered simply upon our
chance meeting and exchange, now that I’m fatigued from roaming and here with
you, what the sound of a girl’s voice and her thoughts might be like.”
Perplexed, the girl studies the
face of Someone. Emotionless, she inquires, “Now that you
know, what are you going to do about it?”
A stare … a mute glance from Someone. He stands awhile, and then he walks
away.
