Service

Blog70:

Service, help that we give to someone or get for ourselves, humbles and honors us.

I used to think that the servant role is one lowly situation, until I thought about people, including myself, in public service.  I serve at the pleasure, interest and need of people who depend on me for their cognitive development.  No matter how young or old they may be, the thought that I could get someone achieve a level up in understanding something … a word, a passage, a whole narrative or an expository piece … a process, an experiment … gives me great excitement and accomplishment.

My learners put me on a pedestal day in and out because they believe I create an elevating path for them in comprehending something very complex.  That may be somewhat true, but what they don’t know is that I get rewarded in return by their accomplishments.  To me, delivery and facilitation of something, so that it’s broken down to sizable connected pieces brought to instant clarity, is indeed magical.  The feeling of getting an ‘AHA moment’ is exhilarating.  I like to be continuously electrified, stirred, and stimulated so that I gain a significant something out of procedural steps or mind-boggling challenges.  That must be the same or similar feeling one gets when an enlivening service of the mind and emotion gets extended.

Who wouldn’t want to experience a thrill in life, repeat the thrill over, and get paid doing just that?  No one!  There is not one soul of whom I could think. To be of service, and be able to do a great service at that, is a gift that keeps on multiplying!
