Comfort Zone

Blog74:

Moderately conservative, with a ‘zing’ around and about unexpected corners, describes my overall point of view on tastes, thoughts and things.  It took me a long while to self-admit this observation, but I’m almost ready to fully embrace it and embark on making this the focus of my probing life.

Take food, for instance.  Food, for purposes of nourishment and invigorating energy, doesn’t have to be garnished for me.  It doesn’t necessarily have to undergo long and complicated configuration.  The fresher food is, the better it is: greens, breads, seafood, tofu, and occasional chicken or pork; forget beef altogether … too hard to digest!  The simpler, quicker preps are best for them all– baked, broiled, chilled, poached, boiled, and grilled.  What I do like is putting foods together in a variety of ways.  I like to be surprised with mouth-watering tastes and palate-vulcanizing textures.  Hearing a crunch between bite and chewing here and there gives eating pizazz; combining spices and aromas tenfold-activates the flavors, and make the experience exquisite!   Being creative with food and enjoying every inch and taste of it is truly celebratory!

With music, I am selective, yet enjoy a wide collection of artists and rhythms.  I can’t be around one type of music filling the air over and over.  I love interleaving folksongs with jazz, and blues.   They stimulate my mind and allow it to travel within communities and groups that produce them.  My whole being gets lifted by classical pieces of Bach, Mendelsohn, Tchaikovsky, and Beethoven.  Hymns always elevate my spirit and calm my mind.  I love the fire and revitalization of songs that address social differences and advance causes of social justice, peace, and hope.  I love music that gives a boost, a kick a buzz to the soul.

Comfort is vital for me when selecting what to cover my skin.  Keeping up with what’s fashionable clothing and accessories, don’t take a natural groove for me.  I purchase and choose to wear mostly traditional clothing lines and time-tested cuts that could easily blend, mix and match.  I would not be caught wearing anything loud, something that distracts or gets another’s head turning over worn items.  I don’t like to be boring, so I once in a while dare myself with unordinary surprises in design or cut once in a while.  I know for sure that I dislike embellishments.  They get too noticeable, they elate and steal from the mild personality I want to put forward.   A bolo tie, a watch, a pair of earrings or an occasional bracelet and necklace are my preferred frills.  With shoes, that’s a different matter.  Comfortable and simple, yet refined elegant footwear always find their way to cover and protect my feet.

Mild variety, when it comes to choices of, over and about anything, I come to presume … complements my personality.  I’d rather privately observe things, think thoughts, and operate behind the scenes, than be sighted and noted.  Those choices don’t necessarily imply that my opinions and actions, where appropriately requiring a voice, will not scream!
