B52:
5:16 … FB messages’ check.
What’s up? Wowie … P. I.
relative’s chance to visit gets realized.
Yeaah! Glitch though … will not
be available to entertain for the weekend requested; but all will work
out. Perhaps, at the tail of that
Pacific coast work-visit, eh?
6:58 … Pet Dad Mickey is out early for community
service/mission. I note that Cinn and
Dink are stressed; the critters are edgy on each other barking, annoying; Cinn-
quit it! Dink- move away from her! I address the two as if they’re people who
understand language. They calm down (for
a minute or so … maybe), especially Dink.
He hides under the bed. He
wanted to hide himself as far away from Cinn and have far better indulgences,
like a soft carpet. I could tell he’s
upset over change of routine today. I
drift to children and parents – real people; Child parenting must really be
challenging!
… Early morning commute begins
shortly. ‘Hurry up!’ What’s the hurry? I’ll just wait at a Stop sign or maybe those
four stoplights; why do I put myself in rush hour? Brain … easy does it!
8:01 … ‘Time to get to the nitty-gritty of work. First up are two language assessment
batteries. Not so fun, but after those, life, at least
in the work confines, should ride away!
… Jennifer is really doing
well. By golly, she just breezed through
the reading tests. What a girl! I am growing fond of her, but must curtail
it. I must avoid attachments. It will be hard to leave!
… Decisions- always, there are
decisions to be made. What should come
first, next or last? It’s a never ending
wheel. Whether big or small, a good and
appropriate decision must be done. If
not, someone else makes it for us. A
thoughtful man, who asked me to consider something very important, told me one
time: when you come to a decision, keep it!
Let it reach that finality and settle with it! I’ve kept true to that advice and have
learned to live with my judgments.
12:20 … Day is completing without a hitch, so far. I hope it rides the waves. Just my streak of luck, even though I don’t pay
attention to it, I won from a lottery drawing event: a free
dinner from a popular sandwich shop.
Nothing beats that! Who says
nothing in life is free?
… Afternoon is getting to a
close. Brain- remember to pick up Hu San
and Owen for letter recognition this PM; smart boys … those two, even with delayed
learning signs. Owen – what are his
issues? I must dig into his cum records
sometime next week. American-born and
schooled since pre-K, he should have mastered letter sounds and their names! Hu San – I don’t know how much learning
background he’s had in a Thai refugee camp.
I don’t think his parents and he were required to attend school at the
crowded camp for Burmese displaced people.
Displacement and Camp Life – neither one is an ideal situation for a
family like Hu San’s; just one of the many challenges facing our sisters and
brothers in a military-controlled state. Camp life conditions though are much better than
having to constantly fear for one’s life.
I must get that interpreter to call on Hu San’s parents for an early
morning conference next week!
2:05 … One more referral for a struggling student who has just
a year and a half exposure in an American educational system. What is the teacher expecting? The child began with ‘0’ English and has not
had enough time to build on vocabulary for science, the arts, math or social
sciences’ academic learning! Thinking
back to my Cambodia years of service, I could relate to that grueling Khmer language
learning at a much older age. While not
the same, and my Khmer language acquisition took a turtle-like journey. Trials for language comprehension and use are
plenty!
4:20 … Still here in the workplace; I just completed conferring
with Eric and Luis’s content instructors.
What does need to be done to get these two youth to catch up?
… I must finish one more thing. I’ve got to edit minutes of Monday’s
committee meeting. Gee whiz … when is this
day going to quit?
… Almost 5PM; enough work. Hello, weekend chores, and more homework!
