Mortal Accounting

Blog46:

For what does one’s being account?
Look in the mirror for tell-all signs.
The mirror tells nothing more than the truth.

Lines on the face signal loss of suppleness.
Blackness under the eyes tells the wear of age … years …
Hair falls often now.
Skin thins.
Bones begin to protrude.
Words reveal dullness.
Memories fade … show lapses.
Stares lose intent; they turn blank.

Life on the outside, and inside wears away.

Gradually, it becomes damaged.
Little by little it gets weaker.
Once vigorously pliant-
Muscles take less determination to show elasticity.
Energy likewise dissipates.
Backbone gets fragile, weakens -
Until it one day breaks
Like an appliance, an equipment, a piece of furniture.

Grown tired from toils exerted over time …
Mind slows.
Body, mind, and emotion suffer fatigue.
Body, mind, and emotion get drowsy, slowed, bored.

What story does one’s mortality tell?
