Ode to Leaves

Blog43:

Do you wonder all year round?
Why up in the tree or on the ground
Lay beautiful shapes of foliage
And fascinating colors that don’t seem to age?
Fluffy, stately heights compete
Leaves … Mother Nature’s gift!

Do you wonder all year round?

Why up in the tree or on the ground

Leaves - wide, narrow, do abound

Leaves – shiny, dull, blunt are found

In bright purple, red and brown

In yellow, orange, gold - leaves turn!

Do you wonder all year round?
How could leaves dumbfound?
They breathe for a tree
And they make food too
Like yummy sugary water
That helps trees grow!

Do you wonder one and all?

Why do leaves go down and fall?

They flutter when cool winds blow

They fly away; they even land on toe

Some lose their green; others stay seen

In bright colors some transform in sheen!

And do you wonder what you can do
When leaves come down swiftly on you?
You could walk in them
You could roll in them
You could stomp on them
Even jump all over or crinkle them!

What I don’t ever wonder about

Is what leaves give and seem to shout

“Come to my summer shade!”

“Hear me rustle in breezes!’

“Let me hide birds’ nests to safety!”

“Caterpillars – come, come feed!”

Spring, summer, most especially in autumn
Leaves’ explode, celebrate, and perform!
