What’s on your plate?

What do you mean?

Figure of speech –

I want to know what plans you have for today.

Ah- that. Well, nothing much.

Why do you ask?

Oh, just kibitzing … talking.

Do you want to go ‘pig picking’?

What do you mean?

It’s southern talk … to go for a barbecue downtown.

Do you want to come along?

No.  How about we go for Vegan food?

Nah; not my cup of tea!

What do you mean?

Muddling language …

That’s to say, ‘I don’t particularly like it.’

Why were you late to work, by the way?

‘Had to meet with ‘head honchos’ at work …

What do you mean?

I sat with administrators to clear up something.

Did you hear that we’re going to eat high on the hog Saturday?

What do you mean?

We’ll celebrate!  There’s a jam for the main head honcho’s daughter.

You remember the oldest daughter of Mr. X?  She’s tying the knot!

What do you mean?

Jam – parteeh!  Mr. X’s daughter is getting married to a big wheel!

What do you mean?

Big wheel … you should know … a very rich man!

Ahhh, now I get it.  Can’t you just talk in plain English?

I can, but that’s mind-numbing.
