Ode to a Dying Tree

 Blog 434:
From a seed to a sapling
Sun and rain nurtured you
I watched as you grew a tiny trunk … a few leaves
I watched as you grew branches and twigs
From knee-length high to several feet up
You grew even taller like a skyscraper
And every passerby got awed by your beauty
Thanks for the never-ending shade you gave
Thanks for housing the birds and their critter-friends
Thanks most of all for fruit of your body and spirit
Rest now, dear Oak Tree
Lie on the ground and nurture other trees
And like I would, watch young seedlings sprout
Watch them grow in the very ground you once proudly stood
