Homecoming

Blog 461:
A woman looks out the window
She stares at something
Nothing in particular I could see
Not from where I sat in curious vigil
Yet she gazes at a distance
As if she anticipates an event … a sight …
Perhaps she waits for a movement …
Maybe she hopes for a sign of kind
I get agitated just looking … watching …
Nonetheless, there she stands patiently spotting
Offering nothing more, but a serious gape
Suddenly a shadowy figure appears
I vaguely could make sense of it
Except she gets filled with excitement
At the sight of the one beloved soul mate
Whose gait and walk even from afar
Truly is familiar and in memory rooted within
In her every vein and pulse!

In Memoriam …

Blog 460:
Remember the good
Learn from the bad

The dead is dead
It doesn’t want us to mourn
It doesn’t hear our moaning
It doesn’t feel our loss
It doesn’t care about rationalizing anything

Remember the good
Learn from the bad

The dead is dead
Nothing will make right a committed wrong
Nothing will cheer it up
Nothing will make up for lost nurturing
Nothing will bring it back to life

There’s only cherishing …
A remembering of all the good one’s life lived!
There’s only learning …
An acting to never repeat wrongs a life once lived!

6ft under

Blog 459:
The dead lay still six feet underground
In time, their bodies decompose
From routine rain downpour
And busy work of devouring soil

I don’t understand much about humans’ fuss
Time and again a squabble over coffins arise
Debating, choosing, and finally deciding on one
As if identifying the strongest of them all
Would preserve all along a dead body

The dead lay still six feet underground
In time, their bodies decompose
From routine rain downpour
And busy work of actively devouring soil

When I die, there’d be no fuss
There’d be no screaming, no fussing
Over which coffin to put my dead body
“Spare me the debate, please!
Return me only as dust back into the ground!”

Doze …

Blog 458:
At 10 PM, I laze at the couch
Inducing my body and mind to lull
I can’t explain though why they fight
My desire to sleep is overpowering
Yet neither one wants to rest … yet …

My eyes are lit up as well
They are fixated on the tube
Where noise and images keep going …
And going … fighting with body and brain
My rebel eyes defy too the sleep I yearn

“Stop, you both!” I yell
They quit … for a moment
And then make a “GO” once again
From my fetal posture, I straighten up and lie very still
Soon they both give up, and I doze down in sleep!

Delay Attack

Blog 457:
Wait for a sign
Wait for the right time
Wait for something exciting
Wait for that first meeting …

Wait to be called
Wait for a response
Wait for someone’s arrival
Wait for something to end …

Wait for a decision
Wait for a turn to act or speak about
Wait things to turn around
Wait for an effect …

Awkward funny it is to wait
With waiting, patience lapses
When waiting, tension builds up
Waiting numbs our being …

Renew

Blog 456:
Tired body must lie down
After a grueling, physical toil
Let neck extend side to side, front and back
Let screaming shoulders calm down
Let lumbar pains find comfortable resting spots
Let extremities straighten
Let hands stretch and relax
Let feet soak in lukewarm H20 treat
Let mind find beautiful thoughts
But beyond all winding down rituals
Let eyes close and take respite
Find that repose that soothes and heals
Find a restful place
Find sleep
Renew!

Russet Indulgence

Blog 455:
Let dessert be cake
Top it with dark, delectable confection
Let nightcap’s drink be warm coco
Top it with slivers of brown sprinkles
Let any snacks be topped with Kisses
Or filled with melting Hershey candy
Nothing is tastier to the palate
Nothing is more mouth watering
Nothing is more craving-pleasing
There’s nothing better to indulge in
Nothing more exquisite than CHOCOLATE!

Pumpkins

Blog 454:
Pumpkins big and large
Pumpkins tiny and small
Pumpkins green and orange
Pumpkins oblong or circular
Pumpkins shaped in every which way
Wild, obtuse and almost perfectly round
All grown down the farm!
In whatever shape or form you find one
Just pick it up
Embrace its natural form
Love it
Make a splendid dish of it
Eat it
Savor it
Let it stand by your door step
Or let it be carved to your heart’s delight
For a friendly Halloween welcome!

Fall on the Wild Side

Blog 453:
Hay rides
Pumpkin patches
Houses of ’friendly terror’
Scary hunts …
Take your pick!
Don orange and black hues
Sport a fearsome mask
Wear a goofy, inventive hat maybe
Or fully dress up as you wish
In character or dream-like persona
Trick or Treat?
Go ahead … just have fun
If that were not festive enough
Hold a gathering
Get friends and foes alike
Spread a table with apples, candy and jam
For cool, entertaining October Fest!

Threatened Life

 Blog 452:
Emergency Call:
High blood pressure and heart attack
Unwanted fall, food poisoning
Garden venom bite perhaps
Or bite from a wild dog … a fox
Loitering loosely around a neighborhood;
Thank goodness for quick responses
Be it from the district fire station
EMS or Animal Control folks …
Emergency response is crucial
In protecting and saving lives!

Taste Buds' Attack

Blog 451:
Food craving
Makes mouth water …
Incites stomach dances …
Food at one’s reach can’t replace it
One must look for that one desired food
Anywhere, everywhere, somewhere
Then take it to the hungering palate
Passionate taste for something
Pleases buds’ longing!

Happy Returns

 Blog 450:
Natal day remembrances charm the heart
They’re somewhat reflective and nostalgic
Loved ones make wishes for many happy returns
Friends and acquaintances cheer you up for days
You want to wallow in the warmth generated
You want to bask in the tender moments
A birthday comes once a year
But you wish its memory never ever ends!

Hailstones

Blog 449:
Correction, please!
We’re not snow
We’re larger than sleet
We’re actually in graupel family, you see
You will not find us during winter time
Instead, watch out for us in thunderstorms
We form as stone-like looking mixture
When upward-moving air stops falling graupel
And drops of super-cooled water hit and freeze it
Before long, we mix, and then grow as heavy concoction
Hailstones we’re called by name
When we get too heavy for air updrafts to support
We all dangerously fall and strike all in our route!

Graupel

Blog 448:
Sister to beautiful, frosty snow
I’m made of much smaller pellets
And opaque icy particles
Remaining a liquid,
I fall through super-cooled cloud drops
Then freeze as crystals with lumpy mass
Find me in winter time
As soft and crumbly snow frost
Almost perfect for a cold ball play-fight!

Snow

Blog 447:
You see me dropping from clouds
Bright, light, beautiful and manna-like
When temps get below freezing
And water vapor begins condensing
I dance bypassing raindrops
Straight into ice crystals I emerge
As clusters of ice glassy-like pellets
I am FrostySnowflake White!

Sleet

Blog 446:
Transparent to your eye, I come from clouds
Small, translucent balls of ice
I start as drizzling rain, but freeze soon as I land
Sometimes I’m an icy coating
Other times I look like tiny pellets you don’t like
Especially when you step on me
And you slip and slide …
Watch out for me -
Little, light frozen raindrops!

Childish Tantrum

Blog 445:
She shivers
She shakes and trembles
She feels something undesirable
She runs and hides as far inward, under the bed
“What’s the matter, little one?”
She doesn’t reply her usual high-pitched bark
Instead, she cowers in fear
And like a little child, she whimpers
“It will be a quick Groomer visit, dear one,” I say
But she doesn’t want to hear of a trip
Not on this yucky, rainy day, anyway
I get a grip of her tail and pull it gently
She emerges finally
And shuddering still
She gives in!

Formidable Predator

Blog 444:
A strange-looking creature visits my realm
Close-up, it shows a triangular head on its long neck
I read long ago that its head is able to turn 180 degrees
Slowly … surely … I stalk it awhile

I watch its two large compound eyes
And three other simple eyes between, as they scan around
Unfortunate insects: crickets or moths, flies and hoppers …
All fall victims to its wanting appetite!

Its own kind, however better watch out alike …
I heard, its female specie, is known to devour
After or during it’s been pleased
By its friendly, unsuspecting male counterpart!

Lesson: ‘Can’t always judge a book by its cover …
Looking shy onset, but really sly … devious …
Daunting Female Mantid guiles
“Run away!” I say.  “Run while she pretends to pray”!

Stalker

Blog 443:
Typically green or brown
It is well camouflaged on plants, its home
Not many naked human eyes could easily spot it
Mantis sneakily lies in ambush
Or patiently stalks its game
Its reflexes are as quick as lightning
Under magnified lenses, its legs show spikes
Wittily, it uses them to pin down target prey
But not today; today, it just sits atop my outdoor bin
Saying a prayer, “Live, human … and let me live!”

Mantis

Blog 442:
Bug Mantid
Carnivore, camouflaged, head-swiveling
Among the leaves, it disguises itself
Quite extraordinary, it can turn its head 180 degrees
Its prominent bent legs bend at an angle
It positions itself praying in humility
Watch out though ...
Stealthily, it could spot its potential prey!
Praying Mantis

Annoying Critters

Blog 441:
Shoo, bug!
Move away from me
Ouch! That bite hurt
Now it itches
Oh, no … it’s turning red!
What did you do, bug?
You sucked my blood?
You poisoned my skin?
You caused a bump?
That was an irritating bump!
Shoo!  I said shoo, bug!
Leave me be!

Autumn Wind 4

Blog 440:

Fluttering, rumbling, howling
Early morning it cuts through my skin
All day it laughs and yaps loudly
By evening it lingers coldly
I loathe and you Autumn Wind!

Autumn Wind 3

Blog 439:

He howls as he storms the country
He is the villain big and bold
Trees all shake, quiver and quake
As he robs them of their gold!

Autumn Wind 2

Blog 438:

Looting, sacking, despoiling
Whirling around and upside down she goes
Triumphantly frolicking she dances
And when she's conquered and won
The landscape is left exposed!

Autumn Wind 1

Blog 437:

From the sea she comes puffing and gusting ...

When she hits land, she blows and wafts more
She is oblivious of her weather beating
She doesn’t care if you must get hooded
Or get wrapped with a coat
And your head get hat-covered
All she cares is to freely move and wander

There she struts, and flounces boisterously!

Crown

Blog 436:
Tooth re-make, anyone?
I did get one done
Easy work from hands of pros!
First get scarred tooth prepped
Then inject anesthesia
Massage and spread that in gum area
Rest the mouth and let numbing work
Next comes the grind vis-à-vis siphoning
Instrument passing from one hand to the other
Image taking front, left, right and back follows
That insures placement of semi to perm cap
A quick dry and a dab
And then reveal one prestigious crown !
“Tooth good as new!”

Stretch, Walk, Run!

Blog 433:

Stretch high your arms and legs
Roll head from side to side, front and back
Get the feet to spring up and bounce back and forth
Bend waist and touch your toes
Now extend left leg up front and lounge
Let the right leg compete with the left on flex
Reach far down as you can and hear extremities scream
You’re ready for the walk
You’re so ready for the jog
You might even want to run
Go with your happy feet
And give it your all!

Powder Green

Blog 432:
Microscopic Organism
Green, powder-like, suffocating
Simple and microscopic
It thrives in wet places
It grows and travels by air like seeds
While it’s is a necessary part of environment
It is fatal when it attacks our body
Cold,Sickening Mold

Robotic Work

 Blog 435:
Sore feet
Sore legs and back
Soreness that makes every bone screams
Soreness that paralyzes every fiber of one’s being
Day-long physical work brings down a body
You want to stop, but you’d rather not
You want to lie down, but you couldn’t
You could not even sit a bit ’cause you’ll crumble
Sore hands and fingers
Sore arms and shoulders
Soreness that makes every inch of your body cry
Sun up to sun down box lifting, shoving, pulling drains
You want to stop, but you’d rather not
You want to lie down, but you couldn’t
You could not even sit a bit ’cause you’ll crumble

Ode to a Dying Tree

 Blog 434:
From a seed to a sapling
Sun and rain nurtured you
I watched as you grew a tiny trunk … a few leaves
I watched as you grew branches and twigs
From knee-length high to several feet up
You grew even taller like a skyscraper
And every passerby got awed by your beauty
Thanks for the never-ending shade you gave
Thanks for housing the birds and their critter-friends
Thanks most of all for fruit of your body and spirit
Rest now, dear Oak Tree
Lie on the ground and nurture other trees
And like I would, watch young seedlings sprout
Watch them grow in the very ground you once proudly stood

Homecoming

Blog 429:
From yesteryears of academic prep bond
To going forth into the world of mission app
We come together again and again …
-to renew ties of acquaintanceships and friendships
-to impart learning discoveries along the way
-to affirm passions for opening opportunities
-to disclose roadblocks and impediments met
-to seek advice on still perplexing, trying challenges
-to be humbled
-to give thanks to our academic coaches

Yes, we come together again and again …
Year after year, we trace steps where all our nurturing began
Homecoming allows us to sweetly reminisce on pasts
Homecoming lets us revisit tasks that pitted our brain & brawn
Homecoming delights our memories of shared fanfare
Homecoming brings back ties to seed planting we sought
Homecoming satisfies our continuing hunger for inspiration!

Step Up!

Blog 430:
March …
March on …
March on conviction …
March on conviction now …
March to the drumbeat of purposeful inspiration
March to the call of leadership
March to the call of people power
March to the call for peace and diplomacy
March to quell hunger and thirst
March to find cures for illnesses and diseases
March …
March on …
March on conviction call …
March on conviction call now!

Pearly White Bath

Blog 431:

Dental Wash-up
Coat gums with numbing solution
Check status of teeth
“This one’s somewhat mobile,” Lynn says
Lynn’s the gentle spirit … my dental hygienist
“Numbing working now?” she asks
I say, “It’s working just fine!”
Let’s get to work then
Scrape here, there, and around cutters and chewers
Off you all go plaque!
Rinse and siphon all dirt
At last … looking fresh and almost pearly white
Floss and dab
One final check
Prophylaxis  done!
