Play!

Blog103:
Climb up a maple tree
Jump over the roof
Run around its five corners
Then slide down a post
Do it over one more time
Much faster than the first
None will stop her
Squiggly, feisty squirrel!

She runs a-ground in play
Sniffs at every leaf, bark or branch in her way
A fellow squirrel distracts …
“I dare you to climb the oak one!”
She hollers, “Race you to the top!”
The intruder runs after in pursuit
She swirls around the trunk
Squiggly, feisty squirrel

Up, up they go
Even faster, they speed the climb
Both hang from branch to branch
Giggle, chuckle, and snicker she does
“Catch me if you can slowpoke!”
Intruder runs in haste
They race for what?
Acorns!  Sweet, soft, ripening ones!
