Silence ...

Blog106:
Silence evokes layers of meaning and understanding.  You could find silence attractive in some sense.  You could also silence someone or prevent an individual from expressing opposition and criticism about something and/or someone.
In a chaotic scenario, you could covet for silence to step in to keep your sanity.  When your world is tumbling you want your mind to clear and find silence.  When you literally want to hear something, silence could be most desired.  The absence of sound or noise could clarify something and convey to you the much needed information you want to understand.  Silence … the complete absence of sound or noise could afford you desirable peace within.
In a different scenario, you might want to silence someone because her opinion would wreak havoc in your world and life.  You would do anything to keep someone’s mouth quiet so that secrets and terrible skeletons you have in your closet do not come out.  You might bribe to silence someone.  You might threaten or intimidate a person to keep her quiet.  But for how long could secrets stay hidden?  You decide the courses and consequences of silencing someone to shield your own faults and misgivings that are ruinous.  Anything you want hidden that is spoken out to the world could be destructive to your existence.  You want silence.  Anything else will simply be catastrophic!
A deafening silence could drive you crazy.  An absolute, complete silence could be frightening, especially when you are alone.  Shattering silence mixed with fear could increase your heartbeat, deaden your senses, and feed all types of cunning voices in your head!
Silence … stillness … noise absence … speechlessness … has powerful yet dangerous effect in our psyche and immediate realm!
Do you desire silence?

Into the Woods ...

Blog105:
The woods loll …
But they delightfully welcome ground intruders-
Large and small leaves swing in and out
They move in pairs or in hordes
They mingle … then rest …
At invitation, they take their places in crevices.

The woods slump
They refuse to inch out of their comfort zones
But they gladly lull their sturdy or fallen bodies
As winds whistle their merry sounds
And jump here or there in chase of one another
Between, and around small and tall tree residents.

The woods stretch
They perk up … they step out and shift their bodies
Jovial dancing begins as ‘the Maestro Wind’ touches each
Until solitude turns into a cheerful symphony of whistling
Trees surrender … they bare their branches …
They obey, instead of defy gravity.

In pain?

Blog104:
Physical pain is so very difficult to live with.  Even looking at someone experiencing pain is just as difficult as living it.
When we’re in pain, it is best to just give in to it all the way, “obey” a doctor’s order to take it easy, to relax, and to not constantly think about the pain.  After all, medication prescribed to deal with the source of pain must work its miracles … for at least the duration it must travel from mouth to the pain if it were a pill.   If it were a serum, we must exercise patience and let that liquid to travel the blood stream.  Since there’s nothing much more we could do with pain after all possible treatments and relieving actions have been resourced, getting our minds off it is the next best thing to take up.
I’d begin with a few tricks to get lost in the limbo of ‘nothing-ness or something-ness’. I’d first pull out those books and magazines I’d postponed reading and/or browsing through.  My mind could travel many different directions and get as far away from my miserable reality.  I’d pull out next those Wii games I purchased, but had not opened and played.  That would at least give me a few hours of diversion.  When I finish those, there’s the constant companion of all time … the tube!  Television channels that both educate and take the mind to distant times in history or exotic places too expensive to get to could easily be reached with a button push!  Think about it; flip the remote to the National Geographic, the Smithsonian, and the History and Discovery channels.  Voila!  One’s mind is off that nagging pain.  After those, there’s the internet to explore and get lost in.  I’ll window-shop, get a book read to me while I do my best to snooze in the process, work on puzzles, get messages through FB, Skype and e-mail to all folks with whom I’ve not exchanged thoughts, then dig deeper for classmates and friends I’ve been wanting to get hold of  in the longest of times.
This panacea for pain I concocted is a sure winner!  If Mickey would just buy into one, two or all of it, his ‘mind-on-the lower back pain from which he’s suffering momentarily, will all go away.
Physical pain … we all live with or without it.  When our bodies tell us we need a break, we shouldn’t go against it!  Pain, bad as it is, reminds us that we’re alive, we’re fragile and vulnerable.  And because we’re mortal, we’re bound to feel all what we could in our lifetime!

Play!

Blog103:
Climb up a maple tree
Jump over the roof
Run around its five corners
Then slide down a post
Do it over one more time
Much faster than the first
None will stop her
Squiggly, feisty squirrel!

She runs a-ground in play
Sniffs at every leaf, bark or branch in her way
A fellow squirrel distracts …
“I dare you to climb the oak one!”
She hollers, “Race you to the top!”
The intruder runs after in pursuit
She swirls around the trunk
Squiggly, feisty squirrel

Up, up they go
Even faster, they speed the climb
Both hang from branch to branch
Giggle, chuckle, and snicker she does
“Catch me if you can slowpoke!”
Intruder runs in haste
They race for what?
Acorns!  Sweet, soft, ripening ones!

Janus-faced Nature

Blog102:
“From dust we come …
To dust we will go …”

Life begins and ends
It comes from something
It goes without our choosing
But in between
We shape and mold it
We grow and live it
We lament its sadness
We sing its gladness!

Today …
We have everything nature provides!
Tomorrow ...
Who knows what’s to come?
Nature is good and bad
It embraces and lulls us to most secure of places
It beats and lashes at us just because its character allows it

Nature displays our calm
We are witnesses to its stillness!

Nature brings out our worst
We are witnesses to its terror!

“Prove it!” you dare
“Proof is at your feet.  Look around you!” I dare back
“Look in front of you and behind you …
Turn to your left and to your right …
Look ashore … and look inland!  You need more proof?”

‘Sandy’ marched in throng
She swamped our beaches … our roads
With tenfold force, she even struck into the safety of our homes …
So we thought!
Many lives … gone!
Many homes … gone!
What we’ve built … gone!
What we’ve treasured … gone!

Mother Wind and Father Rain
We call, desire and plead that you sustain our lives!
We loathe and curse the devastation you wreak upon us!

“From ashes we come …
To ashes we will go …”

Life begins and ends
It comes from something
It goes without our choosing
But in between
We lament its sadness
We sing its gladness
We shape and mold it
We grow and live it!

Wallow ...

Blog101:
Books …
Have you noticed or touched them lately?
Big ones, small ones
Paper bound, hard bound

Turn a book’s page ...
Just open one and get away
Open three or five of its pages
Get as far away as Timbuktu or Chiang Mai
Uncover ancient and new civilizations
Re-discover worlds you’ve heard about but not encountered

Turn a book’s page
Just open one and get away
Open three or five of its pages
Find little and big towns in the pages
Read all about places’ quaintness or histories
Unearth bits and pieces of information you’ve not heard

Open a book now
Tuck yourself in a micropolitan destination
Find in it new understandings
Don’t stop just yet ...
Dig inside … dig deeper and meet new people
Turn another page and let your mind get glued in new finds
Note a graphic; have you seen it before?
Locate a place you spot on a map

Turn yet to another page
Does a word strike a chord with you?
Does a picture bring back thoughts … connections?

Books ...
Big ones, small ones
Paper bound, hard bound
Dull … may be plainly wrapped
Mesmerizing and strikingly shrouded
But don’t judge them by their covers

Open a book ...
Turn a page … three or five
Set out on a quest
Expand your knowledge
Unleash your yearnings
Just get your thoughts drifting away
To worlds unknown
Let books get you away from the humdrums of life!
Seek …
Wonder…
Dream …
Delight!

Flavor-rich Freedom!

Blog100:

What’s great about freedom?  Freedom that’s filled with all, anything and everything anyone can imagine, and actually reach, of course! Even better  is that I have it to enjoy with my Lord’s grace today, and I pray that I’d be deserving of many more days like today , for many more days ahead!

Imagine a day like how mine started:

… wake up time at 7AM … sip lazily a cup of coffee over newscasts of the day … chat with a sister-friend from far away Japan … imagine and sketch a sun-room/library project … watch more tree leaves fall from trees make their way there and here … choose a few chores (just a given of life!); add on to today’s experience listening to soft forgotten, nostalgic music of the 8o’s … fiddle with data saving … etcetera … etcetera!

I look around my home and survey all I have put aside because of limiting and structured times day in and day out … the last 37 years!  “It was a life filled with labor of love and tons of challenges,” I tell myself.  I look at ‘me’ in the mirror.  I realize that it told all the forgotten care I gave my face and hands.  I could not help but notice lines that have become prominent in my forehead, my neck, under my eyes.  How physically different … aged … I have become!

I don a smile after indulging at what I saw.  Change within and change on the outside … what are they but just natural progressions capped with years of wonderful, though sometimes trying days of life’s toils and surprises?

I have no complaints today.  I am excited that today commences many more days filled with wonderful possibilities.  I could taste the future here and now, and those to come afterwards.  I feel alive with this awesome feeling about having charge over when I get up, do what I want, pick up anything I’ve postponed doing, play with lovely pets Cinn, and moody Dink.  Best of all, I am tickled by simply thinking that I really have time to enjoy the mornings, afternoons or early evenings  with wonderful Mickey – my constant cheerleader, supporter, thoughtful, full-of-surprise spouse.

With these euphoric feelings today, I could clearly see tomorrow and days after.  They foretell even grander discoveries that make me feel superbly confident!
